Trains of the Old West

Goose Comes to Visit Ridgway

Being the history buff that I am, I am completely in awe of Ridgway’s newest temporary addition. Although I have not had the time to get over to look at her up close, I did get to witness her historic “return” voyage to our fine town that is steeped so heavily in train history.

Below I have linked my blog to an local newspaper article that contains the full details of why we have this “short-term” visitor and why she means so much to our area.

As fuel prices increase my thoughts actually drift to a time when one could hop on a train and ride to Telluride, Montrose, etc. for a mere pittance compared to the prices of gas nowadays. I have heard tell that some folks have even petitioned the area “powers that be” to recommission the railroad systems and recreate history. The rest of the story was that recommissioning, though it sounds wonderful and romantic is not cost effective. Could that possibly change as gas prices skyrocket? I wonder.
