Ridgway, Colorado a Vacation Destination

View from LogHill

So, I have been receiving inquiries from folks that want to know what there is to do in Ridgway. My answer is, “everything you come to Colorado to do and more.” Ridgway, the backdrop for many scenes from the John Wayne movie True Grit, is a great escape as well as a portal back to the wild west. Upon arrival in Ridgway, a weary traveller can enjoy, the quiet, serene vistas, where flora and fauna surround you at every turn. For the adrenalin junkies there is ice-climbing, extreme skiing and in the summer, mountain biking, rock climbing as well as river rafting, four-wheeling or cresting a 14er. For the more docile visiter there is hiking, snowshoeing, horseback riding, golfing, fly fishing, jeep and mine tours, hot springs or simply basking in the alpenglow and the over 290 days of sunshine. When it comes to vacation destinations our little town packs a big punch and a huge “bang for your buck” getaway. So, ya’ll come see us now. Check out our new on-line rental booking at Ridgway Rentals .We won’t leave the light on for ya, cuz we’re enjoyin’ the night sky.

Colorado Vacation Rentals

 Cimarron Moutain Range

So, many things have changed for me business-wise since I last “blogged.” One truly exciting thing that has happened is that I have moved my license to a great spot that not only sells Colorado real estate, but offers property management as well. The company’s name is Mountain Management at Ridgway. We are sister companies with Mountain Management at Telluride and Ouray Realty Investements.

My role at this new locale is to develop the Ridgway vacation rental inventory and then market the inventory. It is so exciting and interesting. Our properties range from townhomes to 5000 square foot homes that can sleep up to 13 people. We want to make Ridgway not only a great place to live, but also a great getaway. This will offer folks from all over the opportunity to experience our little piece of heaven.

If you are not aware Ridgway is “The Gateway to the San Juans.” Our town is centrally located and allows one to be right in the heart of all the Western Slope has to offer, whether it be skiing in Telluride, ice climbing in Ouray or just kicking back in the beautiful surroundings of the “old west.” Ridgway also boasts hot springs, cross country skiing, horseback riding, history, mines, hiking and much, much more.

Ya’ll come on out and if you need a place to stay, we can help. Just visit www.ridgwaymountainmanagement.com

Sunshine Brings Back Colorado Property Seekers

If you love skiing great powder, Colorado, especially the Western Slope, has been the place to be. The Telluride snow report is a 74″ total base and 264″ for the season’s total. Again this is great news for the snow bunnies. However, the folks that enjoy both the sun and the snow were getting a bit discouraged this season. But, be of good cheer, the sun has returned and that puts a smile on even the frostiest of faces. It has also brought out the property hunters that might have been a bit gun shy when it came to making the trek through the mountains. Phones in the real estate offices have started to ring again and the e-mails are picking back up.

Snow on the Western Slope?

Snow in Telluride, Colorado

As you may or may not know we here on the Western Slope LOVE, nay should I say, ADORE our weather and perhaps even FIXATE on it.

I never knew there was another place where you could actually say, “don’t like the weather, well, stick around.” It changes on a dime and we like it that way. We don’t have to put up our summer/winter shoes/clothes. We just build bigger closets or scale back to Tevas and Sorrells, sweatshirts and tank tops. So the discussions usually contain the following:

“When do you think that snow is going to get here?”
“Don’t you just love that sun?”
“I hear they got a big dump of it over in_______County.”
“Aren’t the winters/summer/falls/springs beautiful here?”

One of the comments that I like the most is, “aren’t you cold?” Well, no, usually not. Just like South Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona get a “dry” heat, we usually get a “dry” cold. So, I am adding one more thing that I have adapted well to after living most of my life with a “wet” cold; dry cold. All of the above must be experienced first hand to truly appreciate, so here’s your invitation. Ya’ll come out and see us, ya hear?

Southwestern Colorado Sun!!

Ouray County Sun HERE COMES THE SUN!!

I am finding that one of the things that I love the most about this area all the many sunny days we are blessed with here in Southwestern Colorado!

We woke up the Friday after Thanksgiving to a blanket of snow. It continued to snow off and on all that day. Then Saturday morning….sun!!! I have been told by several locals (oldtimers) that we can expect anywhere from 290-300 days of snow here on Colorado’s Western Slope. What a deal!

Yesterday, while out showing property, I wore a long-sleeved, cotton sweater and no jacket, gloves for a short time, but then those had to go and I actually got a little toasty in my sweater. Can you believe that?

That sun on the snow is what makes winters tollerable for me. I will be the first to admit that I love the summers, springs and falls here. I love a White Christmas, but am not a huge fan of  long, cold, dreary winters. Well, you don’t have to worry about that here. I think I even got a bit of a tan yesterday. On my face and hands that is.

Another Day in Colorado Paradise.

Chimney Peak, Cimarron Mountain RangeToday began with a lingering and invigerating visit to my friend Sandy Bruss’ horse ranch. I am starting to embrace what she lovingly considers aeromatherapy. It is a combination of smells that are hard to describe. Of course there is the obvious, horse “poo.” Then there is the clean crisp air, the smell of grain, grass, snow on the mountains, etc. See, I told you. It is very hard to explain. But it is quickly becoming aeromatherapy for me as well.

When you grow up in the city as I did, you learn to drown out the airplanes, the car emissions, the honking. the traffic, etc. and you end up thinking, “this is how life is supposed to be.”

However, as I was riding on the golf cart, this past weekend, to help with some chores (a cart, mind you being driven by a 8 year old) I felt a little sad that my children were unable to take part in all of this wonder around us at an early age like this little girl was.

I suppose my advice for the day, is…..if it is within your power to live out “away from it all,” do it as soon as you can. It has been one of the biggest blessings I have ever been given.

Thanks for visiting my sight and I will keep in touch!!
