Ridgway, Colorado a Vacation Destination

View from LogHill

So, I have been receiving inquiries from folks that want to know what there is to do in Ridgway. My answer is, “everything you come to Colorado to do and more.” Ridgway, the backdrop for many scenes from the John Wayne movie True Grit, is a great escape as well as a portal back to the wild west. Upon arrival in Ridgway, a weary traveller can enjoy, the quiet, serene vistas, where flora and fauna surround you at every turn. For the adrenalin junkies there is ice-climbing, extreme skiing and in the summer, mountain biking, rock climbing as well as river rafting, four-wheeling or cresting a 14er. For the more docile visiter there is hiking, snowshoeing, horseback riding, golfing, fly fishing, jeep and mine tours, hot springs or simply basking in the alpenglow and the over 290 days of sunshine. When it comes to vacation destinations our little town packs a big punch and a huge “bang for your buck” getaway. So, ya’ll come see us now. Check out our new on-line rental booking at Ridgway Rentals .We won’t leave the light on for ya, cuz we’re enjoyin’ the night sky.

Colorado Vacation Rentals

 Cimarron Moutain Range

So, many things have changed for me business-wise since I last “blogged.” One truly exciting thing that has happened is that I have moved my license to a great spot that not only sells Colorado real estate, but offers property management as well. The company’s name is Mountain Management at Ridgway. We are sister companies with Mountain Management at Telluride and Ouray Realty Investements.

My role at this new locale is to develop the Ridgway vacation rental inventory and then market the inventory. It is so exciting and interesting. Our properties range from townhomes to 5000 square foot homes that can sleep up to 13 people. We want to make Ridgway not only a great place to live, but also a great getaway. This will offer folks from all over the opportunity to experience our little piece of heaven.

If you are not aware Ridgway is “The Gateway to the San Juans.” Our town is centrally located and allows one to be right in the heart of all the Western Slope has to offer, whether it be skiing in Telluride, ice climbing in Ouray or just kicking back in the beautiful surroundings of the “old west.” Ridgway also boasts hot springs, cross country skiing, horseback riding, history, mines, hiking and much, much more.

Ya’ll come on out and if you need a place to stay, we can help. Just visit www.ridgwaymountainmanagement.com

Trains of the Old West

Goose Comes to Visit Ridgway

Being the history buff that I am, I am completely in awe of Ridgway’s newest temporary addition. Although I have not had the time to get over to look at her up close, I did get to witness her historic “return” voyage to our fine town that is steeped so heavily in train history.

Conservation Easements In Colorado

Gasoline FunnyTo all subscribers to my blog, I would like to apologize for not being very consistent in my postings lately. I have a few personal events that have been a bit of a distraction lately, i.e., my son is getting married May 17 and my parents, in Dallas, TX, celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. By the end of May I hope to be back on track and clear headed enough to keep you all up to date on the latest area happenings.

Just as an aside, I did attend a very informative community and continuing ed class on Land Trusts and Conservation Easements especially with regards to Colorado properties. If you are interested in more information you can go to the following link www.cclt.org

My best to all and thanks for your patience.

Ouray County Tree Farm Has Many Potentials Including Horse Property

Lovely English Cottage Style HomeWHAT A FIND!!!!

I simply adore this home. If you click on the picture you will be directed to my company webpage that not only offers a detailed description of the home but a virtual tour as well. As things green up around here we will be adding panoramic pictures to the tour that really show off just how lush the property is. A consummate green thumb has enabled the current owner to cultivate a veritable cornucopia of indigenous flora. While walking the the unfenced portion of the property there are obvious signs that fauna abounds as well.

Sunshine Brings Back Colorado Property Seekers

If you love skiing great powder, Colorado, especially the Western Slope, has been the place to be. The Telluride snow report is a 74″ total base and 264″ for the season’s total. Again this is great news for the snow bunnies. However, the folks that enjoy both the sun and the snow were getting a bit discouraged this season. But, be of good cheer, the sun has returned and that puts a smile on even the frostiest of faces. It has also brought out the property hunters that might have been a bit gun shy when it came to making the trek through the mountains. Phones in the real estate offices have started to ring again and the e-mails are picking back up.

Colorado Wildlife Right Out the Back Door

Ice Climbing in Ouray County

Ice Climbing at Ouray’s Ice Climbing Festival Ok. I will be the first to admit, I don’t quite get it and those of you who know me and are avid climbers know that I believe you all have serious adrenalin issues. However, from my understanding, the Ice Climbing Festival in Ouray’s Box Canyon has become one of the biggest draws to Ouray during the winter months. The festival has come and gone now, but if you have not attended, it is a site to behold.

Changing Demographics of Ouray County

Solar RanchWell, according to our local paper, The Ridgway Sun, the population of Ouray County only grew by 55. One thing that has to be grasped about our area though is that not all property owners live here. I don’t know exact numbers, but quite a few folks, especially boomers have invested to retire/live here sometime in the next 10 -15 years.

However, I do know that the face of Ridgway is changing. It has done so in many ways even in the last five years since we moved here. Our neighborhood, Solar Ranches for example, has built out immensely. My street alone has had 3 duplexes built on what were empty lots 5 years ago.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mind. I love it that others are relocating here and getting to share our appreciation of the area, whether it be part of the year or year round.

Check out the link to the paper it’s a great way to find out just what makes our great town tick.
